A Rise in Solo Women Travelers in India

The travel industry is booming and if you focus on a particular niche, the number of solo female travelers are rising, particularly among Millennials and Gen Z's, though many women in their 40s and 50s are also traveling solo or with friends as they have fewer family responsibilities with grown children and strong finances.

Since this sector is trending, many travel companies are dedicated  to plan itineraries tailored for solo women travelers keeping safety in mind at every step.

The trend is on the rise due to the following reasons:

  • Improved safety measures.
  • Women want to travel independently, explore the world at their pace, and experience new things to know themselves better.
  •  It’s a way for many women to unwind and connect back to themselves.
  •  Also women aren’t willing to get married earlier or even don’t want to, even this has led to the increase in solo women travelers.

Well whatever the reason, a travel packed life is not a loss to anyone, it only adds good memories, learnings and awesome experiences in your brain stock.

Although there is an increase in solo women travelling, and it will go up even more in the near future, it is observed that women are not opting spontaneity while planning a solo tip, their trips are planned well in advance and, every aspect of the trip is usually thought through.

Below are a few important aspects that are mostly pre-planned:

  • -          The date of travel. (Start and return dates are fixed)
  • -          Means of travel. (Starting from the transfer from their homes to the airport/bus station/train station and back home).
  • -          Their itinerary is frozen. (they don’t usually take detours)
  • -          Every day of the trip is briefly pre planned. (Places to visit, experiences, food outlets and transportation)

It is also noticed that the number is higher at spiritual destinations like Amritsar, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, etc. may be because they want to explore themselves spiritually and find peace within. Along with this, places like Hampi, Goa, Gokarna, Pondicherry, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh etc are popular women solo traveler destinations.

Women also prefer travelling solo to enjoy yoga retreats & art retreats, where they live in the retreats for a couple of weeks to learn, explore new ideas and meet a different community.

The rise in international travelling of solo women from India is not far as there are plenty of countries safe for women out there that are filled with experiences and fun and there are quite a few travel companies and communities that dedicatedly plan trips for solo women travelers.

This rise is going to:

- Change the way women travel.

- Break societal norms.

- Empower women.

It’s a whole new solid growing niche!
